Smaug descends on the Lonely Mountain in the time of King Thrain I, lit by the glow of his fiery breath. In the Tolkien tradition, the sky is moved more by doom than meteorology.  

Rendered in Bryce 5, with figure exported from Poser 4. DAZ's Millennium Dragon LE wears a texture by Lyrra Madril, and the fireball is by allengraph. The dragon was lit by one spotlight, then a negative one was used to subtract light so the fireball would appear to be the source.
